Little Italy Mercato Christmas Eve

The Little Italy Mercato on Christmas Eve was wonderful way to start the day. The weather was warm and sunny and the neighborhood was decorated for the season. This farmers market continues to amaze me. For such a large market, it still feels like a neighborhood market. People bring their dogs and in fact there is a 2012 calendar for sale with dogs of the Little Italy Mercato. There was good music in two different locations. This is always at fun market and Christmas seemed to bring out that extra bit of good cheer. The `Mercato` is located at India and Date every Saturday. This market should not be missed. http://www.littleitalysd.com/ and http://www.sdfarmbureau.org/

Best Farmers Market

What is the best farmers market that you have ever visited?
Location always has lots to do with it, but it may have been the vendor variety. It may also have been the right time of year when they had your favorite fruit or vegetable.
The absolute best farmers market in San Diego County  (in our opinion) is the Little Italy Mercato. The location, variety of vendors and attendees is by far our favorite. Of course, it doesn`t hurt that you can visit some unique `mom and pop` stores and restaurants in the neighborhood before or after the mercato. It also, doesn`t hurt that you have a great view of San Diego Bay from nearly every part of the mercato. Picking a favorite is not an easy task in San Diego. There are many very good markets in San Diego County and each has it`s better points. We have enjoyed farmers markets throughout San Diego and even in other parts of the United States, Canada, Italy, Spain and even Central and South America. A farmers market is one of the best ways to experience a city and learn what the local farms have to offer. If you go often enough you will come across food that you may never have heard of before. This blog is the start of a quest to promote farmers markets and the farmers that produce some of the best local foods. These markets have created a trend that takes us back to the way people have been purchasing their food since ancient times. We support farmers markets, do you?
